So. Here we are. This post marks the beginning of my MA in User Experience Design with Falmouth University. I ended up peering through the door of UX when I realised that a career in architecture wasn’t right for me. The more I researched the industry, the further I fell into the rabbit hole until I decided to begin teaching myself the basics. Not having worked in the tech industry, everything was new and exciting, and I found it hard to focus on one direction. When I discovered the option for an online, part-time UX course, I jumped to apply. Not only will this course provide a path to follow, but I will have the opportunity to interact with people on the same journey.
This blog will serve as a space for critical reflection. Each week I will break my reflections down into categories with the aim of writing 2 – 3 posts a week.
I am excited to explore this new field and wring as much experience as possible from every source; therefore, I need goals. These goals will not be concrete but will respond to who I am and what I want as time progresses.

Short term goals
- I aim to connect with other junior UX designers to make friends and build my circle of UX connections.
- I aim to build a portfolio of work showcasing my unique style and interests.
- I aim to learn UX programs and tools (Figma, Sketch etc.) to build product prototypes confidently and quickly.
- I will learn the academic theory behind the course material, providing a secure footing for my future projects.
Long term goals
- I will use my portfolio to transition into the tech industry, preferably to a specialist web design company where I will be part of a large design team. Ideally, I will find a position as a UX designer before the end of the 2-year course.
- I will gather knowledge and experience in accessible design and build a specialist skill set to enhance my employability.
- I will continually improve my German language skills, but I will specifically seek out UX information in German. To do this, I will listen to and read German language content about the UX industry and collate a German UX vocabulary.
